As of January 12th, we are in the 3rd week of the new year. Many things have changed since 2025. The business landscape has evolved. But safety remains a priority for some companies and is still the last thing on the minds of many others. The world is still suffering due to industrialization, and companies continue to prioritize profit. A dashboard or profit calculation can’t measure environmental and safety awareness; it is driven by leadership and communication.

EHS IN 2026 TERMS
EHS professionals are struggling in the fast-changing workplace.
The challenges are overwhelming: the rise of AI and automation, the presence of three generations in the workplace, the pressure to do more with less, and more.
Complexity is more pronounced. EHS is a long-term investment, a challenge, and a matter of ROI. The fast-growth mindset that shaped the business in recent years has made the work of EHS leaders and managers tougher.
Stockholders don’t see an advantage in the investment in EHS. As AI and robotics handle many tasks, they expect fewer issues, higher profits, and greater alignment with their goals. However, adopting these technologies raises new EHS issues and doesn't always solve old problems.
Workers treat new technologies as obstacles rather than opportunities. They aren’t well-trained on these technologies and don’t have enough time to learn because other new technologies are being integrated quickly.
This gap is the core problem of the EHS department— the expected and the actual.
The EHS leader's role this year is to educate stockholders and workers about this gap to fill it.
